The whole process has been refreshingly collaborative and the execution of the work has been smooth and efficient

The Brief

To create an attractive, private, practical and fun space for a young family living in the middle of the City. Access to the garden from a new extension to the lower ground floor demanded a reworked layout and some creative terracing to maximise space and light: generating a green and welcoming space. The garden also had to look good from all levels of the five-storey house above.

We worked closely with the client and architect to link the garden with the beautiful period house and contemporary extension through use of materials and shapes. The garden needed to come right down into the lower ground space and the journey up to the higher level needed to be gradual and exciting to entice exploration. The solution included designing bespoke, cantilevered, curved steps inspired by the house’s period windows and a built-in circular seating area.

The excitement provided by the level changes, combined with strong geometry, bespoke craftsmanship and textural planting has transformed the space into one that looks and feels special both from within and above.
