The Brief
To transform this dull suburban garden into a contemporary outdoor living and play space for a growing family.
A large open plan kitchen-dining extension with a whole wall of glazing opening out onto the garden demanded a seamless connection between house and garden. While the sleek, contemporary industrial aesthetic needed to flow outside, three young energetic boys also required a robust space to play, run and connect with nature.
We worked with the client to extend the polished concrete floor out and create a terrace which appears to float at night.
The planting is kept contemporary with lots of movement and interest provided by grasses and architectural shrubs, whilst new apple trees create a playful space for hammocks. The trampoline was sunken and hidden behind a veil of planting, and to the rear the boys enjoy a treehouse, their own vegetable patches and plenty of free space to dig, play and nurture their green fingers and beloved creepy crawlies!
It’s been an absolute pleasure to see this garden used day in, day out as an extension to the family’s living space.
